texan cowboy playing guitar in front of campfire

when I imagine
we are nestled on a porch
banjos playing down by the fire
we sit listening
and you let me peel you
like a banana
huge strips of discovery
so sweet but not weak

they play folk songs
and a guitar joins in
I let you peel me
not all this night
more like an onion
it’ll take some time

you will cry at my story
and I am sorry
but I am strong
so cut into my layers
there I will show
that we onions
turn sweet
when warmed slow

come feast on me
by the fire
I’m worth the years it takes
to get
to know
