, ,

they fall heavy all around
pelting me with attention
drenching in beats insistent
but just as quickly dry
in a day forgotten

you are not rambunctious rain
you are a quiet stain
indigo ink on my white gown
I can remove the cloth
but beneath you still mark me

deeper than skin
dyed
with the permanence
of a lost quill
I am learning to cherish
